A Wedding Fit for Snow White

Forget the seven dwarfs, this forest themed wedding is a dream come true. Filled with forest items including branches, earth tones, ferns, ornamental pods, grasses, moss, berries and even two hugging bears as a cake topper. The ceremony evoked a very organic and naturalistic setting and featured several banana leaves. This theme, based around the couple’s love of hiking and nature brought the great outdoors inside. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were displayed on the sweetheart table amidst swirling grape vines, brown birch log boxes, and tree bark.

Flood in Thailand

Due to the recent and terrible flooding that has overtaken Thailand, much of the world’s orchid crop has been destroyed. As the floodwaters recede from Bangkok, the outlook for the upcoming month’s orchid crop looks bleak. As with supply and demand, market prices will remain higher for imported orchid crops. The flower market is largely influenced by global events, flooding, government matters and import tariffs all alter what flowers are available at the moment. Below are pictures from one our orchid suppliers in Thailand and the devastation to their facility.

How do you spell ‘I Do’?

For 27 points and a lifetime of love, a groom proposed to his wife on a scrabble board. Luckily for him, she said ‘I do’ (4 points). Using this inspiration, Celebrations Design Group took the opportunity to personalize their wedding and make it uniquely theirs. Using scrabble pieces, CDG incorporated the scrabble theme into different elements of the wedding. Instead of table numbers, the couple opted for table destinations, corresponding to the letter on the escort card. This personalization based on their story and personalities added to the flair and memory of their wedding.

Superheroes of Celebrations

Celebrations Design Group would like to take the moment to thank and congratulate it’s team of hard working professionals for all their dedication and expertise. Just this past weekend, CDG designed and worked 9 major events, seven of which occured on Saturday, 9/10/11, a popular day due to its date 9-10-11. Our expert staff executed the weekend flawlessly, a feat only possible with the utmost standard of teamwork, coordination and passion. My hat goes off to my team because none of this would be possible without them!

Black in Style

If you haven’t been keeping up with the Kardashians, you may have missed an extravagant black and white wedding, including an alternating black and white layered cake, a stylized aisle runner, and draped fabric. However, the Kardashians aren’t the only ones with style. CDG has a few ideas to add to the style and finesse of your wedding or event.

World Wedding Cultures

We had the recent privilege to work with several couples on Hindu weddings that have exposed us to learning traditions apart from the Christian & Jewish ceremonies we’ve previously been involved with. We’ve enjoyed designing bouquets for the elaborate Sari’s the bridal party wears in conjunction with cultural red & white garlands for the bride & groom. Elements of the bright and vibrant color palettes in dynamic red and purple accented with regal gold are certainly breathtaking. The ceremony canopy, called a Mandap is an exquisite focal point. Every wedding is an exciting adventure for us; some even include the terrific opportunity of learning new things!

Destination themed centerpieces bring the fun of anywhere in the world directly to your party! Tied into a cruise ship themed event, Celebrations recently created these cruise ship destination centerpieces, from Hawaii to Hong Kong. These destinations can replace the blase table numbers with fun creative ways to handle seating.

Insta-Wedding with WSTW

In recognition of our new partnership with Hartefeld National Golf Club, Celebrations Design Group would like to congratulate the happy winning couple of WSTW’s Insta-Wedding, which took place on the morning of May 19th. The winning couple, Kathryn Ashley Poore & Steven Michael May, were treated to an all expense paid wedding at Hartefeld National Golf Club, including everything from rings and dress to flowers. Broadcast during WSTW’s morning show, the couple was married with 100 friends and family present.

Impacts on the International Flower Trade

With recent flooding and bad weather in South America, the flower trade has been affected internationally. Though not uncommon within the business, this year has been unusually harsh for the South American flower trade. Several of our flower suppliers in the Bogotá and Medellin in Colombia, who supply almost all of our flowers, have had their crops and farms flooded. They have been fortunate enough to save some of their crop, but at an impact to the market. A similar event occurred last year with the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland. Air transportation came to a halt, stranding thousands of Dutch tulips in Europe. Thousands of homes have been lost and 93 confirmed casualties due to the flooding. Below are some images sent from our resilient flower suppliers. They’ve put their lives at risk attempting to salvage some of their prized crops.
